And so, Delegate — so is Allah
The papers are in. A short message to every delegate on amanah, testimony, fear, and the promise every delegate now holds.
The talking is over. The petty arguments about fees and forms are dead. From today until July 26, this election rests on the shoulders of exactly one group. This column is for you. Only you.
You are packing your bags in Karonga, Mangochi, Nkhotakota, or Blantyre. You think you are traveling to cast a ballot. You are completely wrong.
You are carrying the blind trust of the widow who drops her last kwacha into the masjid box without asking questions. You are carrying the exhausted madrasa teacher bleeding his life away on a shameful salary just because the kids need him. You are carrying the desperate young sister begging for just one institution that isn't broken. They cannot enter that room. You enter it for them.
That is amanah. Not a hollow, ceremonial buzzword. A crushing weight.
"Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due." Your vote is not a preference; it is a divine testimony. You are swearing before Allah Himself that the man you choose is worthy of holding the lives of Malawi’s Muslims in his hands.
Now ask yourself the only question that matters: When you stand before Allah, can you look Him in the eye and defend your vote?
Because you will have to. You are a shepherd for one afternoon, but you will answer for it into eternity. The hall will empty. The minutes will be filed. The applause will die by Maghrib. Your accountability will outlive the grave.
Let’s strip away the polite whispers. If someone handed you money, fuel, a favor, or a fake smile in exchange for your hand, understand what they actually bought. They didn’t buy a ballot. They bought your soul. They bought a false testimony.
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) cursed the briber and the bribed. Cursed. Not scolded. Condemned. There is not enough kwacha printed in the entirety of this country worth dragging yourself under that curse.
Know this: whatever is bought cheap is held cheap. A leader who buys you today has already priced your community at zero. You will not be consulted again. You weren’t chosen. You were purchased. You were spent.
And if it isn’t greed rotting your vote, but cowardice—listen closely. The Board of Trustees publicly promised no retaliation. Sheikh Ali Kennedy said it flat out: No removal. No exclusion. Weaponize those words. Fear has no jurisdiction on July 26. If anyone tries to intimidate you in the shadows, they are cowards violating their own constitution.
They will announce a winner in that room. The real judgment will fall from the Heavens.
Nobody is asking you to be a hero. The deen demands something much harder: walk into that room with your amanah clean, and walk out without blood on your hands.
Vote only for the man you’d trust with your grieving family if you dropped dead tomorrow. Nothing less. Vote like the widow is gripping your pen. Vote like your son is burning holes into your back, learning exactly what a man of faith looks like for the next forty years—or what a hypocrite looks like.
And if your conscience costs you a friend, a favor, or a seat at the table—Alhamdulillah. Trusts that cost nothing protect nothing.
Travel safely. Pray istikharah. Then raise a hand you won't have to sever and hide on the Day your own limbs testify against you.
The Muslims of Malawi cannot enter that hall. But they are strapped to your back. And, Delegate—so is the gaze of Allah.
