Government Officials  Arrested for Stealing Tax Payers Money

Police in Mchinji district have arrested two council officials suspected to have embezzled over K14.5 million for the council.

The council conducted an audit enquiry between the 17- 25th March, 2020, where it was revealed that the said funds went missing and the matter was reported to Mchinji police .

Mchinji police station publicist, Sub Inspector Kondwani Kandiado has identified the two as Eliya Phiri,47, Senior Assistant Accountant and Victor Dinor Nsamu, 40, Lands Clerk, both are suspected to have embezzled K9,160,000 and K5,400,000 respectively.

Kandiado said the two are on remand after appearing before the court where they were answering a charge of theft by public servant.

Elias Phiri hails from Chidyaki village in the area of Traditional Authority Wimbe in Kasungu while Victor Nsamu, is from Chisalanje village in the area of Traditional Authority Malemia, in Zomba district.
