Ramadhan Set to Kick Off Tomorrow

Malawi: Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, is starting tomorrow, Thursday 12th August 2010. During Ramadan, the Muslims abstain from eating, drinking and other illegal things from sunrise to sunset.

The fasting, which falls on the ninth month according to the Islamic calendar, is intended to teach Muslims about patience, absitenance and spirituality in the name of God.

Ramadan is believed to be the month in which the first verses of the Quran, the holy book of Islam, were revealed.

Sheikh Dinar Chabulika, Islamic Information Bureau National Coordinator confirmed on the development to local Islamic Radio, Radio Islam Malawi.
