The Justice of Allah on the Day of Judgement

A central belief in Islam is that this life is not the end, and that every person will one day stand before Allah to account for how they lived. Far from being a source only of fear, this belief is rooted in a comforting truth: that ultimate justice belongs to Allah, whose judgement is perfect and never wronged.

Why Judgement Is Necessary

In this world, justice is often incomplete. The oppressor sometimes escapes, and the victim sometimes dies without seeing wrongs put right. The belief in a Day of Judgement answers this deep human longing for justice: no wrong will go unaddressed, and no good will be lost. As the Qur'an says, "So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it." (Qur'an 99:7-8)

A Reckoning Without Injustice

Allah's judgement is described as absolutely just. No soul will be wronged, no good deed overlooked, and no one punished for the sins of another. The Qur'an states, "And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all." (Qur'an 21:47) Every person will be judged fairly, with full knowledge of their circumstances.

Belief and Deeds Both Matter

Islam teaches that success on that Day rests on both sincere faith and righteous action. Belief in Allah orients the heart, and good deeds are its fruit. Neither is meant to stand alone — faith motivates action, and action expresses faith. The believer strives to bring the two together throughout life.

Mercy Alongside Justice

Crucially, Allah's justice is paired with immense mercy. He multiplies rewards for good deeds, accepts sincere repentance, and forgives freely. The believer approaches the Day of Judgement not in despair, but with hope in Allah's mercy balanced by seriousness about their deeds.

The justice of the judgement, then, is a source of both accountability and comfort — a promise that truth will prevail, wrongs will be righted, and every soul will receive exactly what it earned, under a Judge who is never unfair.
