Mzuzu University lZF sponsored Students Donate to Hospital

Recently , beneficiaries of the Islamic Zakaat Fund (IZF) sponsorship at Mzuzu University (MZUNI) conducted a visit to Mzuzu Urban Community  Hospital, formerly known as Mapale Hospital, where they extended support to mothers in the maternity ward through the provision of essential baby care items.

Mzuzu University hosts a number of students who are financially supported by the Islamic Zakaat Fund, an initiative that not only provides educational assistance but also encourages recipients to actively engage in community service and charitable outreach.

During the visit, the students spent time with new mothers, offering encouragement and distributing baby care packages containing items such as baby powder, powdered soap, Eufresh soap tablets and Vaseline. The activity was grounded in Islamic principles of generosity, compassion and service to humanity.

Speaking after the outreach, Hannif Jafali, the representative of IZF-sponsored students at Mzuzu University and a fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences student, reflected on the significance of the initiative, noting that it aligns with the values instilled in them through their faith and the support they receive from the Fund.

“ Our faith encourages us to be of benefit to others. Through this outreach, we sought to express solidarity and compassion to mothers who, despite their resilience, are facing various financial challenges,” Jafali said.

He further emphasized that although the contribution was modest, its purpose was deeply meaningful.

“While the items provided were simple, the gesture was rooted in compassion and faith. It served as a reminder that even small acts of giving can have a meaningful impact and help strengthen community bonds,” Jafali said.

The Islamic Zakaat Fund Malawi (IZF) is a non-profit organization committed to supporting underprivileged students through scholarships and educational bursaries, while also fostering a culture of social responsibility among its beneficiaries.
